Our Mission

St. James Lutheran Church strives to be an active, welcoming congregation who invites people of all walks of life to grow through worship, fellowship, and service in the name of Jesus Christ.

What, exactly, does that mean?

Congregation - (kä[ng]-gri-'gA-sh&n); noun; a group of people who adhere to a common faith and habitually attend a given church.

Worship - (wûrshp); verb; to honor and love; to regard with ardent or adoring esteem or devotion.

As you attend weekly worship service, you will grow to understand your place in God's world.

Fellowship  - (fl-shp); noun; the condition of sharing similar interests, ideals, or experiences; the companionship of individuals in a congenial atmosphere and on equal terms.

St. James is nurtured by its members - young and old, from all walks of life.  Although we are a relatively small congregation, a brief look into these web pages will reveal the wide variety of activities in which our members participate.  Opportunities to enrich your spirit and share your talents will help you connect with others at St. James and in nearby communities.

Service - (sûrvs); noun; Employment in duties or work for another; active devotion to God, as through good works or prayer; Assistance; help.

Putting your time and your resources toward a bigger effort will allow you to serve God by serving others in the East Bay area and around the globe.  Many active groups at St. James have a place for you, where you will find self fulfillment in service to others and to God.

Jesus Christ -  (jzs krst); proper noun; a teacher and prophet whose life and teachings form the basis of Christianity.  Christians believe Jesus to be the Son of God and the Christ.

Jesus is also known as the Redeemer, the Good Shepard,  the Nazarene, Savior, Deliverer.  Lutherans believe that Jesus is God's son, sent by God to become human like us.
