Outreach Ministries Jan '10
Pastor Williams opened Team Tuesday with devotion. The various teams then broke into individual groups.
Outreach Ministries sorted clothing, linins and shoes that had been received during the past month. Items will be delivered to Tap-In, Dorcas House and the Camp Street Ministries. Dawn also took several bags of linins for a family in Fall River who lost everything in a recent fire.
The January Mission Collection raised $99.41 for the Good Neighbor Energy Fund. A check was requested to be sent to the Salvation Army in Providence who will match the donation dollar-for-dollar and then send it on the Good Neighbor Energy Fund.
Jill announced that the Giving Tree had raised $100 for grocery store gift cards. She had delivered the cards to Pastor Williams. She mentioned that Pastor Williams suggested that going forward we purchase cards in $10 increments so multiples can be given to larger families in need.
The group reviewed the 2010 Mission Collection Allocations and agreed on a schedule. One month was left open, to be determined at a later date.
There will be a food collection on the 3rd Sunday of January, February and March. Jill will put something in the Scroll each month and also in the weekly bulletin. Lou will announce the food collection at the early service on Sunday, Jill will announce at the late service.
The Honduras Team is leaving on January 31st; please continue to pray for a safe and fruitful trip.
Lou’s Closet continues to receive clothing, shoes and linins. The Group discussed that this outreach ministry seems to be a favorite with the members of St. James. It is well supported.
Jill mentioned that the eyeglass collection basket is out, and that one pair of glasses has been received.
Dawn spoke about the January 2nd Soup Kitchen hosted by St. James. She felt it had gone well and everyone there was able to take home leftovers.
The group discussed possible “Inreach Ministries” that might be possible at St. James. i.e. rides, help with yard or house work, meals etc. It was decided that we should meet with the new pastor when he arrives for ideas and guidance.
Jill mentioned that she would be finalizing the Annual Report for our committee within the next week or so and would send it along via email for all to review.
We closed the meeting with the Lord’s Prayer.
