Mobile Loaves & Fishes: Doing What Matters

Mobile Loaves & FishesA Year Later...

December is the first anniversary of our participation in Mobile Loaves & Fishes.  We have filled the Mobile Loaves & Fishes Truck twenty six times this year – this means we’ve…·

  • Logged over 500 volunteer hours by members and friends of St. James who helped with shopping, food prep, sorting clothing, or direct delivery of meals and clothing on the truck.
  • Been part of a five church ecumenical outreach program
  • Prepared and served 2,600 hot sandwiches and cold sandwiches
  • Packaged over 10,000 cookies
  • Served over 2,600 portions of fresh fruit, milk, juice, bottled water, candy, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, lemonade, iced tea
  • Distributed enough clothing to fill a tractor trailer
  • Met some amazing folks on the street who have inspired and taught us in so many ways.

A huge thank-you to everyone who stepped forward to help with the myriad of tasks associated with Mobile Loaves & Fishes, it has been an astonishing year.

Already a winter chill is in the air and the homeless are looking for warm clothing along with a warm meal.  We’ve been saving winter clothing in Lou’s Closet and have begun distributing it.  Everyone is so thankful when we’ve brought along a warm jacket, gloves, hat or pair of boots that will fit them.  We are so thankful that we’re able to help provide some comfort, nutrition and bit of conversation.
