How do I submit a prayer request?
Prayer requests can be submitted by subscribers to the Prayer Chain. See the preceeding section on how to subscribe. Subscribers may, however, submit requests on the behalf of others.
How do I become a member of the prayer chain?
Visit the Prayer Chain subscription page. Read the Prayer Chain Covenant and enter your name and e-mail address. You will first receive an e-mail notice asking you to confirm your subsciption. Because this is a moderated list for the St. James community only, your subscription request must be approved before you are added to the membership list. You will receive a welcome message once your subscription is approved.

This week in the readings Luke quotes Isaiah. (See Luke 3: 4-6)
The actual text of Isaiah is a bit different. It reads:
A voice cries out:
"In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord,
Make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be lifted up,
And every mountain and hill be made low;
The uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain.
Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed,
And all people shall see it together,
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken."
(Isaiah 40:3-5, NRSV)
Here are some helpful suggestions for intercessory prayer compliments of the ELCA Intercessory Prayer Team Guide:
Prepare your mind and heart by examining yourself and making repentance and confession of sin to God. Seek to humble yourself and open your heart to the Holy Spirit.
Take a couple of deep breaths and pray (silently or aloud) as you breathe in, “Come, Holy Spirit.”
Take time to listen to God’s leading. What is God bringing to mind as you open yourself to pray? Fight the tendency to fall into a pattern or style that closes our heart to God.
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone…”(1 Timothy 2:1)
What is a prayer chain?
The Prayer Chain is a group of individuals who are committed to responding to the prayer requests of the congregation. They are the rapid response unit, immediately lifting up prayers for those in need as soon as they receive notification.
Members also provide continuing care, praying for those with ongoing concerns.
