Epiphany: appearance, manifestation.
A discovery, realization.
Each Epiphany, we remember the story of wise men from the east who traveled by the light of a star to bring gifts to the baby Jesus. What they found, at the end of their journey, was a new vision of God.What they discovered was a child-a living, breathing, helpless infant whose eyes, coos, and cries were those of God Himself. What they looked upon when they entered the house, was the manifestation of the word “Emmanuel” which means “God is with us.
This Epiphany, we will have the opportunity to experience this same thing, along with our Lutheran brothers and sisters in Rhode Island. There will be a cooperative worship service held on Friday January 6 at Emanuel (how appropriate!) Lutheran Church, West Warwick (more details follow in this issue of the Scroll). Together, we will recreate the journey of the magi, and the wonder of the child that God has sent us.
Epiphany is about God’s appearance in our world. It’s about seeing God face to face, and living to tell about it. In fact, Epiphany is about discovering that when we see God with us, that our life’s work is redefined and becomes all about telling this story with every thought, word, and deed.
Join us for Epiphany, and bring the joy of the appearance of the Son of God into this new year. It’s yet another reminder that God is up to something!
God’s peace!
