Team Meeting Minutes
Tueaday, May 10th, 2011
Present: Jill Bowen, Lou D’Errico , Blanche Richmond, Ed Richmond, Dawn DiFusco, Alice Funk, Kim Bergstrand
The group had a quick business meeting discussing the following:
- Kim Bergstrand joined the meeting to talk about the Kids Care Meal Program. This is a program where supplies are purchased and volunteers then package nutritious meals. The easy to cook meals are distributed to those in need, internationally, nationally and locally. The team had a good discussion and voted to take on this initiative. Kim has arranged for a grant to pay for the supplies and materials needed to produce 5000 meals. She expects 1000 meals to be prepared and distributed by the NE Synod. The balance of supplies will come to St. James. We expect to kick-off this initiative in September. More discussion and planning to follow.
- Missions Collections
- March raised $219.35 for the Community Soup Kitchen
- April raised $125.46 for the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund
- The 2nd quarter payment of $1,706.25 was mailed to the Synod Benevolent Fund
- The June Mission Collection has been allocated to Heifer International. The group decided that they would let the Sunday School Children select what animals to purchase
- .St. James is scheduled to host the Park Place Community Soup Kitchen on May 21st, Nancy Kutz will be needing volunteers.
- The MLF Program is going very well. Lots of members are involved. We have runs scheduled for June and three for July.
- Lou spoke about the Cell Phones for Soldiers Program sponsored by the Military Officers Association of America. This organization collects old cell phones and other hand-held devises. The phones are harvested for metals and other recyclable materials. For each item collected the organization will give a military person stationed overseas a 60-minute phone card. The group voted and decided to place a collection basket in the community room as well as include items in the Scroll and weekly bulletin about this program.
- Jill asked if the team wanted to organize a Fair-Trade Bazaar again this year. Everyone thought it was a good idea. We will discuss more in the fall.
- Lou’s Closet was chock-a-block full this month. The group then ended the business meeting to sort and organize clothing for the MLF Truck as well as Dorcas House, Tap-In and the Crossroads Family Center. Dawn mentioned that she had made several deliveries of clothing to Dorcas House and that the folks there did not seem real thankful about receiving them.
Respectfully submitted
