Youth Ministry - October 2011

Youth Ministry Minutes                Team Tuesday:  October 11, 2011 7:00

Attendees:  Gail, Jen, Sheri, Cathy

JIF (confirmation) Discussion: 

• Pasta dinner 11/6 after second service. 


• Adopt a family paperwork in - request 1 small family with small children (making special note for family with gift requests and not gift cards)

TFC (Teens For Christ - youth group) Discussion: 

• 8 kids going to youth quake/zone.  Sheri has assigned each to something to bring for the pasta dinner.  Each will also bring a dessert.


• Alicia will begin to integrate in as an assistant as Cathy will 'retire' at the end of this school year.


• Meeting dates - we discussed and decided it was best (for parents) to coordinate the TFC and KFC meeting dates to consolidate trips to church and give parents a break on 1 night

• All proceeds from pasta dinner will go into the youth activities fund


• Kids will earn 'credits' (per volunteer hour) for opportunity to receive money (percentage) for youth quake. 

Action items:

• Gail will notify Joanne to add to Sunday bulletin and Debi for Nov scroll and blast email.

KFC (Kids For Christ) - junior youth group (4th-6thgraders) Discussion:   

• September meeting went very well


• October 22nd meeting - corn maze field trip - need to come up with a 'plan B' in the event of inclement weather.


• Nov meeting is the 19th (planning 11/16).  December meeting is the 17th (planning 12/14)
   


• We will coordinate with Sheri for meeting dates going forward
   

Action Items:

• Gail to come up with plan B for Oct 22 event
   

Notes:

• October meeting will be field trip:  10/22


• Nov meeting is the 19th (planning day 16th


• Dec meeting is the 17th (planning day is 14th)

Kids Club Discussion: 

• Kids club will hold bake sale during the Pasta dinner (11/6)


• First few weeks of single room model - we are working through issues and settling into a pattern


• Keeping all interested and engaged - special projects for those kids who need additional challenges (extra curricular work)


• Check with Alicia to see if we can better utilize Nicola and Caroline as helpers for the older grades since the preK/K class is relatively small this year.

• Offering and attendance incentives - point based.  Prizes individualized for winners (by class)


• Sheets available for each teacher to easily track on a weekly basis - give to Gail for tracking


• Will do mid year prizes to increase interest to gain incentive points for 2nd half of year


• Offering September through mid December will be used to support/sponsor Christmas gifts for a family together with JIF


• We will give kids choice for offering for Jan through May: MLF, Heifer, combination, other?
   

Action items: 

• Gail to place a Spark Bible order


• Gail to finalize Team Teacher Schedule - (waiting on info from Jaime)


• Gail to verify teachers have all materials for winter section

Notes:

Other Youth activities Discussion:  
 

• VBS - change to 2nd or 3rd week of July (7/16-20 or 7/23-27).  Notifications beginning in March.  Pre-Reg (for member discount) due by 5/1.  Also changed commitment to 20 (down from 30) due to decrease in attendance in 2011.


• Additional Safe church training will be scheduled as needed. 


• We will proceed with MA CORI/SORI and RI BCI checks - Pastor will follow-up for Nov meeting


• We decided NOT to have a kids club Halloween party this year.  My focus has been kids club and getting KFC up and running.  I haven't had time to work on this.


• Acolyte training - during kids club hour by Carolyn - as soon as I get a schedule from Jaime, I will work with Carolyn to pick a date and notify kids and parents.  I need a week that Jaime is scheduled to teach the 3rd/4th grade class.
